At the conclusion, one dedicates all the merit derived from the empowerment and the subsequent practice so that one may fully benefit all sentient beings, bringing an end to their suffering and establishing them in a state of perfect enlightenment.
The most essential ingredients for receiving perfect empowerment
are 1) true faith, sincere devotion, and unshakable trust in the teacher, which is the heart essence, 2) genuine friendship and respect for fellow sangha who share the same lineage and support each other on the path, and 3) compassion towards all sentient beings, who are the deepest source of inspiration.
Buddhism teaches that the root cause of unhappiness and dissatisfaction
is our habitual tendency to see our world and ourselves in a narrow, limited, and basically impure, ordinary way. If we could recognize our minds, bodies, and environment as free of this mental conditioning, we would discover our world to be a pure land and ourselves to be divine beings.
To maintain the blessings from empowerment, one must always see the Guru as none other then Buddha, see oneself as none other then a divine being, and see one's life as true celebration. One must also view all beings as worthy partners on a pure spiritual path and see the universe as a sacred mandala.
During empowerment, one is introduced to, and blessed to actualize, the sacred, unconditional essence within oneself that has gone unrecognized. Activating this recognition is what it means to be empowered.
Through the ritual of empowerment, the vajra master shows us a
glimpse of a pure realm beyond the habitual patterns of the mind.
Based on our experiences during the empowerment, we learn to
sustain and expand that initial experience through the
subsequent practice of continuous meditation.
