Southern Tier Sangha and Olean Meditation Center, Olean, New York
The Southern Tier Sangha (STS) is a meditation group established in 2009 that meets weekly on Thursdays at noon and at 7:00 pm. STS currently is an affiliate of The Olean Meditation Center at 2275 Dugan Rd., Olean, NY, where its weekly meditation sessions are held. These sessions are free and open to the public.
While Southern Tier Sangha is inclusive in membership, it is inspired by the teachings of H.E. Shyalpa Tenzin Rinpoche. Sangha classes normally incorporate excerpts from Living Fully: Finding Joy in Every Breath.
Southern Tier Sangha membership is open to anyone who seeks to develop mindfulness and compassion by meditating together and wishes to participate in and support Sangha activities. Besides weekly meditation, these activities include quarterly social gatherings, occasional retreat days, and “dharma study” programs featuring discussions of seminal Buddhist texts.
The Olean Mediation Center (OMC) was founded in 2011 as a New York State non-profit corporation, and is recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization. Its corporate purpose is to promote on a non-sectarian basis the understanding and practice of meditation for personal well-being and spiritual growth.
