You follow a genuine spiritual lineage by striving to be the best that you can be. My teachers have always done their best to realize their own pure essence. These great masters are never corrupted by desire for personal gain or glory. This is the virtue of a lineage that is golden and untarnished.

~ Shyalpa Tenzin Rinpoche

Lineage

His Eminence Shyalpa Tenzin Rinpoche is a lineage holder of Dzogchen (Great Perfection), the culmination of teachings within the Nyingma school of Tibetan Buddhism. Dzogchen encompasses the most profound view, path, and realization of our self-perfected, pure unconditional nature.

One of the most widely practiced lineages within the Nyingma tradition is the Longchen Nyinthig (Heart Essence of the Vast Expanse). This transmission originates from the subtle Buddha body of Samantabhadra to Vajrasattva, to the first human teacher Garab Dorje, to Vimalamitra, Padmasambhava, Longchenpa, Jigme Lingpa and Patrul Rinpoche, among many others, to the present day lineage masters. Foremost among them was Shyalpa Tenzin Rinpoche's root teacher, His Holiness Chatralwa Sangye Dorje.

Shyalpa Rinpoche also received transmissions and empowerments in the Dudjom Tersar and Pema Sangthig lineages. The Pema Sangthig (Secret Essence of Padmasambhava) is a treasure teaching of Padmasambhva revealed by the Seventh Jedrungpa, Thrinley Jampa Jungne Rinpoche, a Riwoche Lama active in the late 19th to early 20th century. The Seventh Jedrungpa was a primary teacher of Dudjom Rinpoche Jikdrel Yeshe Dorje and Kangyur Rinpoche Longchen Yeshe Dorje. Shyalpa Tenzin Rinpoche received the Pema Sangthig from his teacher Shabdrung Rinpoche, Chokyi Nyima, who was a disciple of the Seventh Jedrungpa. The Pema Sangthig is a Dzogchen (atiyoga) practice that includes both mahayoga and anuyoga practices. Many of Rinpoche's students engage in the Pema Sangthig preliminary practices.
