Liberating Lives
Following the example of his root teacher H.H. Chatral Rinpoche, H.E. Shyalpa Tenzin Rinpoche leads annual events for fish liberation. Students and friends of Rinpoche make donations and purchase thousands of fish on the docks in Hong Kong. On the day of the event participants meet Rinpoche and monks from Shyalpa Monastery.
After the boat sets sail, participants recite together prayers from Increasing Life and Prosperity, A Method for Freeing Lives by Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo. Then, with joy and compassion, everyone releases thousands of fish back into the sea.
Consider your own body, and, with this as an example,
Avoid doing anything that might bring harm to others.
Make every effort not to kill any living creature—
Birds, fish, deer, cattle and even tiny insects—
And strive instead to save their lives,
Offering them protection from every fear.
